Automated marketing reporting means the weekly numbers an ecommerce team looks at, such as sales, ad spend, return on ad spend and email revenue, are pulled from each tool, combined and refreshed on a schedule, with no one copying figures into a spreadsheet. The usual setup is a connector that pulls data from Shopify, the ad platforms and the email platform, a place to store it, and a dashboard or emailed report on top. For a brand of $5M to $200M, the choice is between a connector subscription that reports each platform's own numbers and a small data warehouse that reconciles them. This guide is from Brand Media Works, an AI consulting and marketing data engineering firm for ecommerce brands, with prices as published on the dates shown.

What should an ecommerce brand automate in its marketing reporting?

Start with the report someone builds by hand every Monday. It usually combines:

  • Store data: orders, revenue, new and returning customers, and top products from Shopify. Shopify includes more than 200 real-time reports on every plan.
  • Ad data: spend, clicks and the platform's own conversions from Meta, Google and any other channel.
  • Email and SMS data: Klaviyo's free plan includes built-in reporting and revenue attribution for campaigns.
  • A note on what changed: which numbers moved, why, and what the team will do about it.

Each tool reports well on its own data. The manual work comes from putting them side by side, because each ad platform counts the orders it influenced, so the platforms' totals rarely match Shopify. Automating the report is mostly about deciding, once, which number is the source of truth for revenue and how refunds, discounts and returns are treated.

What does automated reporting cost, and when is a custom build worth it?

There are three routes, and they trade monthly fees against build cost.

  • Connector subscription and a free dashboard. A connector pulls each platform's data into Data Studio, Google Sheets or another destination. At annual billing, Windsor.ai's Standard plan for 7 data sources costs $99 a month, or $1,188 a year, and Supermetrics' Growth plan for 6 data sources costs $177 a month, or $2,124 a year (our arithmetic). Funnel's Starter plan starts from $300 a month billed annually, or $3,600 a year (our arithmetic).
  • A small warehouse. Google's BigQuery Data Transfer Service loads Google Ads data with no transfer orchestration charge, Fivetran's Free plan covers 500,000 monthly active rows, and BigQuery's first 1 TiB of queries each month is free (read 18 October 2026). Data Studio reads the warehouse at no charge. For many mid-size brands the running cost stays close to zero, but someone has to build the joins and keep them working.
  • A built report. One data consultancy publishes about $1,000 for a first dashboard on one data source, about $4,000 for custom data pipelines from one or two sources with automated refresh, and about $10,000 for reporting across around three sources (read 25 October 2026).

A connector subscription is the better choice when the report needs a handful of sources, standard platform metrics and no reconciliation. A custom build pays off when the brand needs one revenue rule across every tool, wants to join orders to ad spend to see new-customer cost or contribution margin, has more sources or accounts than a plan allows, or wants several years of history in one place. AI workflow automation describes how Brand Media Works builds automated reports and the workflows around them, and how to build a marketing data warehouse covers the warehouse route step by step.

Which marketing reporting tools fit an ecommerce brand?

Windsor.aiConnector into Data Studio, Power BI, Sheets or BigQueryBasic $23 a month (3 sources), Standard $118 (7 sources), billed monthlyFree plan: 30 days of history, and 1 data source after the trial
SupermetricsConnector into Data Studio, Sheets, Excel, Power BI or AI assistantsStarter $55 a month billed monthly (3 sources, 1 user), Growth $222One core destination on Starter and Growth

BigQuery with free transfersWarehouse that holds and joins every sourceFirst 1 TiB of queries and 10 GiB of storage free each month (read 18 October 2026)Needs someone to build and maintain the joins

Connector plans are priced by data sources and accounts, so count both before choosing. A brand with Shopify, Meta, Google, TikTok and Klaviyo already needs 5 sources, which is beyond the 3 on Windsor.ai's Basic or Supermetrics' Starter plan.

What should a weekly marketing report contain?

  1. Revenue and orders, against last week and the same week last year, from the store.
  2. New and returning customers, with the cost of each new customer.
  3. Spend and results by channel, with each platform's reported return next to the store's revenue.
  4. Email and SMS revenue.
  5. Top products and stock alerts.
  6. What changed and what the team will do, in three or four sentences.

The first five sections can refresh automatically. The last one is where AI helps: a workflow can read the week's numbers, write a short summary of what moved, and send it to the team by email or Slack before Monday's meeting.

How do you automate the summary of what changed?

An automation platform such as n8n, Make or Zapier can run on a schedule, pull the week's figures from the warehouse or the connector, pass them to an AI model with instructions on what counts as a meaningful change, and post the summary. n8n's hosted Starter plan costs $24 a month at monthly billing (read 26 October 2026). The summary is only as good as the numbers underneath, so this step comes after the sources agree, not before. Zapier vs Make vs n8n compares the three platforms on an ecommerce workflow, and AI marketing automation for an ecommerce brand covers which workflows to automate first.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best reporting tool for ecommerce?

It depends on how many sources the report combines. For store data alone, Shopify's built-in reports are included on every plan. For a weekly report across Shopify, the ad platforms and Klaviyo, a connector into Data Studio is the quickest setup, and a small warehouse is the more reliable one once the brand needs one revenue rule across every tool.

Is Looker Studio still free?

Yes. Google renamed Looker Studio to Data Studio in April 2026, and existing reports moved across without any action. Data Studio is available at no charge for creators and report viewers, and the paid Pro edition costs $9 per user per project per month.

How much does Supermetrics cost?

Supermetrics publishes a Starter plan from $55 a month billed monthly or $44 billed yearly, with 3 data sources and 1 user, and a Growth plan from $222 a month billed monthly or $177 billed yearly, with 6 data sources and 2 users (read 29 October 2026). Enterprise pricing is by quote.
